Day 37-38 (7/2-7/3): Miles traveled: ~ 108

Location: various (Crater Lake, Diamond Lake), ending in Roseburg, OR

Science: air quality measurements predominantly in hotel parking lot, Roseburg, OR (near highway, obvious woodsmoke haze in distance)

Today we headed out to see if we could get a campsite near Diamond Lake to do more swimming and fishing. On the way, we stopped to see Crater Lake again and discovered that, after giving an all-knowing, super dad-level "always be sure to do a final sweep of your gear and campground before you leave" speech to Rosie that morning, I had:

1. forgotten to zip up the cargo carrier on the car and lost a sleeping mat to the the Crater somewhere, and

2.  lost my phone.

Determined to still have a good day, we headed to Diamond Lake -- unfortunately, the campground was full. So we hung out at the beach for a bit and then drove into Roseburg, OR to stay in a hotel and regroup (they had an ATT store so I planned to figure out a new phone situation there).

The two worst things about not having a phone were not being able to take pictures and not being able to ask Google how to get places. I had to use -- gulp -- a map -- Rosie even helped in the navigation!

In Roseburg, we parked in the hotel parking lot and set up the monitoring system -- the hotel was located near a highway and light wood smoke haze was visible in the mountains behind it......

When I opened up the galley on the trailer to bring in the coolers for re-icing, my phone was sitting there on the counter. Rosie and I did happy dances in the parking lot.

Rosie and I used our time in the hotel to re-organize our gear, get some good showers, and catch up on movies. We watched Luca for the first time and LOVED it (we are both big fans of anything that lives in the water).  Also, my beard trimmer's setting was zeroed out somehow in its case. I ended up shaving a big bald spot into my beard before I realized this. Made for some hilarious moments as Rosie and I tried to figure out a fix -- but in the end I just had to shave it all off. Never a dull moment!
